"There is an incident that I will never forget. I had engaged the services of a well-known painter from the island of Nantucket to do two paintings of [yellow tail] as she saw it. When I was in Yenda in 2004 for the Casella annual Christmas party, I was asked go on stage and make a presentation of the painting, not only to the Casella family but to the 400 people who were in attendance, half of whom were employees of the company and the other half their spouses.
I was sitting with the Pozzi family, who had travelled all the way from Italy, and the Casella family were right next to us at the next table, Music was playing and a woman came over to me and asked if she could have a dance. Because I love to dance and love music, I thought, ‘why not?' During the dance she told me that she worked on the bottling line, and until [yellow tail] she had been unemployed - four children and no job. But she now had a job because of what we had accomplished in the US and Casella's need for more and more employees. She was so thankful to get the job, she could see how many bottles were going to the US and wanted to thank me personally and tell me how much it meant to her that we were instrumental in getting her into a position that meant she could have a very merry Christmas with her family. You don't encounter these kind of things when you are out selling wine."

"I remember visiting the winery and John Casella showing me around and bringing me to his mum and dad's house. It was surrounded by these stainless-steel one-million-litre and 200,000 and 300,000-litre tanks. The sun shone through - sometimes. There was a wooden veranda and a shed, where his dad makes his own vinegar.
John was happy to let that go on. He was happy to go and see his mum and dad in the middle of the afternoon, and we were touched by that. It's nice seeing a man who's got the balance right in his life. I feel jealous - a lot less-successful people are more driven by work. He makes time for his mum and dad and other important things in his life, like family, which a lot of us fail to do."
