  • Kick up your tail at the 2012 JAYCO Tamworth Country Music Festival

    4 weeks ago - Australia

Country music lovers are invited to kick up their tails and join a record‐breaking attempt for Australia's longest line dance at the 40th annual 2012 Tamworth Country Music Festival. The event will take place on Peel Street at 8am on Saturday 28 January - just before the cavalcade.

Festival sponsors, [yellow tail] are supporting the record attempt and, together with professional line dancer, Chris Watson, they hope to fill the main street of town with more than 6,000 people. Dancers are encouraged to wear something yellow for the dance, and [yellow tail] will hand out free T‐shirts to the first 700 people to arrive.

    More

Chris has been organising the line dancing event at the Tamworth Country Music Festival for seven years with the assistance of the Rotary Club of Tamworth First Light.

"Line dancing is a really great social way to enjoy country music. Each year, thousands of people take part and given this is the 40th anniversary of the festival, we think we'll be able to smash the record," said Chris.

"You don't have to be a dancer or know any line dancing steps to get involved. The routine is really easy and fun and I will be there to direct everyone," he added.

Festival‐goers can purchase a dance ticket for $5 in the street or pre‐purchase from Tamworth Visitor Information Centre or Festival HQ. All money raised is donated to Rotary International.

[yellow tail] is the official wine sponsor of the 2012 Tamworth Country Music festival. The Kombi wine bar (affectionately named Bubbles after the popular wine variety) will provide great tasting wines at the Golden Guitar Awards after party. The Kombi will also participate in the cavalcade down Peel St after the line dancing event.

  • A toast to the small things

    November 2011 - Australia

What's not to love about sparkling wine to help celebrate the big - and small - things in life? In fact it's the small things that can catch you unaware and bring a welcome wave of good cheer. In honour of small things, [yellow tail] has introduced three new flavours of sparking wine in 200ml mini bottles.

[yellow tail] Bubbles, Pink Bubbles and Moscato piccolos, that are also available in the much loved 750ml form, have popped into retail stores across the country in the new convenient sipping size

    More

Keep them chilled in the fridge and congratulate yourself on small accomplishments. Like missing peak-hour traffic, surviving the working week, or finally making the time to catch up with the girls. Enjoy them with a straw from the bottle or in traditional Champagne flutes - it's the ultimate gesture of femininity and fun!

Wendy Harmer of The Hoopla (www.thehoopla.com.au) recently tasted the wines. Here's what she had to say...

    [yellow tail] BUBBLES

Loving the little bottle - small, but perfectly formed. And a screw-top! Hooray for the preservation of $30 manicure! Plenty of fine and delicate bubbles in the glass and not too sweet to taste. I like that. A flinty, dry, sophisticated taste that I usually associate with very expensive Champagne.  Clean, dry and a nudge in the direction of lovely grapes, rather than being run over by a tractor.

    [yellow tail] PINK BUBBLES

Is there anything that doesn't benefit from a tinge of pink? This wine is quite subtle. The main difference between this and straight [yellow tail] Bubbles is the slightly sweet (raspberry, rose petal, cherry-ness) in both appearance and flavour that I adore.

    [yellow tail] MOSCATO

This is a delicious treat that's only missing a kiss and a round of "Happy Birthday". For your friends who love to live life on the sweet side, this is the one. I would serve this at the end of the evening with dessert and watch everyone dissolve in a sweet embrace. A lovely floral aroma and flavours of tropical fruit.

Share you celebrations of the small things with us and your friends on facebook: www.facebook.com/yellowtail or for more information about [yellow tail], visit www.yellowtailwine.com

[yellow tail] Bubbles, Pink Bubbles and Moscato 200ml are available at leading retail outlets across Australia for RRP $4.99.

    More

More than 290,000 existing [yellow tail] Facebook fans, and many more food and wine lovers from around the world, are invited to dig-out their favourite party-food or wine cocktail recipe and share it with like-minded party people. The recipe will be formatted into a downloadable card, complete with image and wine match.

The Facebook application comes at the ideal time as people prepare for the upcoming holiday season. Fans will be able to fill their personalised cook-book with planned holiday dishes, or create one as a gift for a loved one for no monetary cost.

John Casella founded [yellow tail] in 2001 and is excited to see how this new 10th anniversary application will bring people together as they plan their own parties.

"When we created [yellow tail], we wanted to provide a fun and tasty wine that people could enjoy with their friends on any occasion, so our 10th anniversary celebration needed to help people to achieve that. Food often goes hand-in-hand with wine at parties and gatherings, so I hope people have some fun with this campaign," said John.

Even though 10 years seems a short time, much as changed since the first bottle of [yellow tail] Shiraz and Chardonnay was made.

"It's hard to believe how much the world has changed in the last 10 years. If you asked me in 2001 how we would celebrate our 10th anniversary, I would never have guessed it would be online. Facebook and social media has become such a big part of our lives. It is wonderful to see the way it unifies people with shared interests from all around the world," added John.

Nor would John have guessed the brand [yellow tail] would become one of Australia's most successful wine labels. John credits the success to consistent quality and value year-on-year.

"Consumers enjoy the taste of [yellow tail] wine, the fun nature of the brand and the affordability of the product. When you combine all three things, it makes for the perfect party wine. All you need now is the party food to go with it so that's why we've created this Facebook application," said John.

The Facebook application is live to fans from all around the world.

  • [yellow tail] wins Oscars of the wine world

    November 2011 - Australia

At a gala dinner on Wednesday 2 November in Austria's capital city attended by more than 2,500 wine experts and enthusiasts from around the world, Australia's [yellow tail] Limited Release 2005 Shiraz was named Red Wine of the Year 2011.

    More

The International Wine Challenge of Vienna (AWC) is the largest wine show in the world. This year, 9,632 wines from 1,487 producers out of 36 nations contributed wines to the competition.

Previously, wines that have been named Red Wine of the Year have come from the USA, Germany and Austria. This is the first time in eight years that an Australian wine has won this award.

The panel of judges is made up of national and international oenologists, wine experts, sommeliers, gastronomes, wine traders and journalists. Panel members are required to have previously passed a wine exam recognised by the Austrian Wine Law.

There are more than 35 categories of wines split by variety, age and style. Each wine is given a score out of 100. Wines that earn more than 90 points win a gold medal and one wine out of all gold-medal winners is deemed Best in Category. The Best in Category wines are then re-evaluated to find the international trophy winner for Best White Wine, Best Red Wine, Best Sweet Wine and Best Winery of the Year.

John Casella runs his family business out of a small town called Yenda in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Since he created [yellow tail] in 2001, he has grown to be the largest Australian winery producing 12 million cases of [yellow tail] each year. John puts the taste preferences of his consumers first and is thrilled to know that the best wine experts in the world think highly of his premium Limited Release Shiraz.

"It feels as though we've just won the Oscar for Best Picture of the wine world. To receive a gold medal in this show is a great honour, but to also receive Best in Category and Best Red Wine of the Year is incredible.

"Our Limited Release range is [yellow tail]'s pinnacle offering and is perfect for special occasions like this one," added John.

[yellow tail] Limited Release Shiraz (RRP AUD$39.99) is made of fruit sourced from Wrattonbully on the Limestone Coast of South Australia. This region is ideal for producing well-balanced fruit that is rich in flavour. It has delicious concentrated berry, plum and sweet oak flavours with hints of classic cracked pepper spice. Complementary mocha vanillin notes come from maturation in American oak barrels.

[yellow tail] Limited Release Shiraz is available at selected independent outlets nationally.

  • Three cheers for yellow tail at Mundus Vini

    September 2011 - Global

[yellow tail] has been awarded five gold medals at Germany's prestigious international wine show, the 2011 Mundus Vini. Three out of the five award-winning wines were Chardonnay varieties including 2010 [yellow tail] Chardonnay, 2010 [yellow tail] Tree-Free Chardonnay (an un-oaked style) and 2010 [yellow tail] Reserve Chardonnay.

    More

Mundus Vini is the largest officially recognised wine competition in the world with more than 6,000 wines entered from around the world in 2011. The wines are evaluated and awarded points based on appearance, smell, taste and harmony/overall impression. No more than one-third of wines entered are given awards ranging from gold, silver and bronze.

The judging panel is made up of German and international oenologists, wine analysts, wine retailers, sommeliers, restaurateurs and wine journalists from over 50 nations.

Mundus Vini shares a 10th anniversary milestone with [yellow tail] this year - both were created in 2001 and, in such a short time, have contributed much to the global wine industry.

John Casella, founder of [yellow tail] was delighted to receive news of the five gold medals, especially the three for Chardonnay.

"The [yellow tail] Chardonnay was one of the first varieties we launched with in 2001 and it is now our number one selling product with more than 2 million cases enjoyed around the world every year. Consumers enjoy [yellow tail] Chardonnay and an award like this helps to show that the world's leading industry experts also appreciate the wine's quality.

"This win is testament to the value of [yellow tail] Chardonnay and its consistent quality across all three of our Chardonnay products. Such a prestigious gold medal for a wine in the sub $10* category is very exciting," said John.

[yellow tail] Tree-Free Chardonnay (RRP $10.00AU) is the newest Chardonnay product to join the portfolio. It is an un-oaked wine, given a quirky name by a consumer in the USA. It displays zesty flavours of fresh lime, citrus and grapefruit. The wine is crisp and fresh with a mouth-watering finish. [yellow tail] Tree-Free Chardonnay will be available in Australia over the next two months.

[yellow tail] Reserve Chardonnay (RRP $14.99AU) is made from fruit sourced from cool climate regions around Australia. It is matured in oak barrels to achieve a good balance of bright citrus fruit flavours and soft, creamy vanilla notes. The premium nature of this product makes it a good upgrade for special occasions.

  • Isn't Life Sweet! New Pink Moscato

    August 2011 - Australia

Family-owned Casella Wines, makers of Australia's iconic wine brand [yellow tail], is set to introduce a pink Moscato! The new product will join the already well-loved and multi-award-winning white Moscato in October this year.

    More

[yellow tail] Moscato is a little bit sweet, a little bit fizzy and a lot of fun. Slightly lower in alcohol and best served chilled, this variety is a refreshing mid-afternoon wine to enjoy with friends.

There's no denying that this Italian varietal is fast gaining momentum in the popularity stakes. [yellow tail]'s founder, John Casella, is of Italian descent and he has embraced the varietal originally from the homeland of his father and grandfather.

"We always keep a close eye on wine trends and when the sweeter Moscato styles were proving to be popular, I was delighted to add the variety to our product range.

"The wine is very approachable and easy to drink, and it has a festive edge that is appealing to people who like to enjoy a glass of wine with friends at social events. We always aim to provide a great-tasting wine at an affordable price-point and I think we have achieved that with these wines," said John.

The new pink Moscato will land on Australian shelves in October, adding a touch of colour to the already colourful [yellow tail] range. Flavours of fairy floss, sherbet and delicate floral notes fill the mouth and the wine has a fine and enticing fizz…just for fun!

[yellow tail] white Moscato was introduced to the [yellow tail] range at the end of 2007 and has proved extremely popular as the number two Moscato in the $10 price category. It is full of summer fruit flavours such as peach and pear and crushed green grapes.

Some of the wine industry's most respected experts have been impressed by the quality of [yellow tail] white Moscato, awarding it Best Muscat in Show and a Double Gold Medal at the 2011 San Francisco International Wine Competition - arguably the most influential wine show in America.

[yellow tail] Moscato is available now for RRP AU$9.99 at all good retail outlets nationally and [yellow tail] pink Moscato will be available for RRP AU$9.99 from October 2011.

  • [yellow tail] Moscato named Best Muscat

    June 2011 - Global

[yellow tail] Moscato was named Best Muscat and received a Double Gold medal at the 2011 San Francisco International Wine Competition held on 17-19 June.  The [yellow tail] portfolio received an impressive 10 medals, including a Gold Medal for [yellow tail] Reserve Shiraz and silver medals for [yellow tail] Reserve Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Merlot.

    More

The San Francisco International Wine Competition is the largest, most influential international wine competition in America judged by a prestigious panel of wine experts.  Judging is based on a blind, consensual procedure. In 2011, more than 1,200 wineries submitted wines from 29 countries and 20 states.

This year's best of show, including [yellow tail] Moscato, are the wines which the entire judging panel selected as the best in each category. Representing the finest examples of their respective types, these wines are worthy of special consideration.

[yellow tail] Moscato is already exceeding Australian sales expectations in the thriving Muscat category, the fastest growing grape variety according to AC Nielsen.  Made from 100 percent Moscato grapes, this wine is slightly fizzy and full of sweet fruit flavours such as crushed green grapes and peaches.

John Casella created the [yellow tail] brand from his family winery in Yenda, NSW 10 years ago and he is delighted with this result for Moscato.

"Moscato is fast becoming a popular wine style. The fresh fruitiness, light fizz and lower percentage of alcohol (7.5%) appeals to wine lovers looking for something refreshing," said John.

"This award further reinforces the quality and value of [yellow tail] Moscato and positions it alongside other [yellow tail] favourites like Chardonnay and Shiraz. It's always been our mission to over deliver on quality in the $10-$15 price bracket, so we're thrilled with this result," he added.

[yellow tail] Moscato is available at leading liquor outlets nationally for RRP $9.99. To see the tasting note, go to: www.yellowtailwine.com/moscato/

    More

The wine show, set in Québec City, has a judging panel of more than 60 international wine experts. It has been one of North America's most important wine events since 1983. This year, more than 1,620 wines were submitted from 513 producers in 32 countries. Only nine Australian wines were awarded a gold medal.

[yellow tail] is renowned for producing excellent value for good quality wines from South Eastern Australia. The brand, which celebrates its 10th birthday this year, offers a premium Reserve range (RRP $15.99) to consumers looking to upgrade their wine for special occasions.

He toured Canada in 2010 with local wine guru Nick Hamilton to showcase the [yellow tail] Reserve range in a blind tasting against other popular wine brands. The [yellow tail] Reserve Shiraz was particularly well-received by Canadian wine critics and John is delighted that the wine has received further acknowledgement with this gold medal.

The [yellow tail] Reserve range is made with the best parcels of fruit from top-performing vineyards across South East Australia. The [yellow tail] 2009 Reserve Shiraz is a red wine with a good spicy kick to it. Fruit flavours of dark cherry are balanced with dark chocolate, spice and a hint of cracked pepper. It is a fuller bodied red wine full of intense flavour. Perfectly matched to a night out with friends at your favourite BYO.

  • Australia’s most powerful 10 year old!

    May 2011 - Global

The Power 100 report by British consultancy firm Intangible Business, rank [yellow tail] wine the most powerful Australian wine brand globally.

    More

[yellow tail], Australia's family‐owned wine label that turns 10 this year, has been ranked as the most powerful Australian wine brand in the world and number 37 in the top 100 wine and spirit brands globally according to the 2011 Power 100 Report released today.

Nearly 10,000 of the most important brands in the wine and spirits industry were tested by a panel of ten global industry experts. Only 100 of the most powerful brands in the wine and spirits industry are published in the annual report. Each brand was given a grade for each of the criteria used to obtain the final score (see below for criteria).

The report's thorough valuation methodology considers brand strength, perception and financial performance and scores each brand on a variety of measures. These scores are then combined with hard volume data to create a league table of the most powerful international drink brands.

"The results are testament to our passion and commitment to making the best wines we can, wines that are not only loved here in Australia - but are enjoyed around the world," said John.

Celebrating its 10‐year milestone, the [yellow tail] brand has come a long way since 1969 when founders Fillipo and Maria Casella began growing grapes at Yenda in the Riverina region. Today the range is exported to over 50 countries with the emphasis on creating great tasting, approachable wines at great value.

Yellow Tail 2010 Reserve Shiraz. The nose on the Yellow Tail Reserve is pretty: fresh cherries, vanilla, perfume and blueberry notes are enticing. Tannins are light, making this well-balanced shiraz drinkable now.

P1NOT noir reds are usually expensive and so this wine has the dual appeal of being gluggable and carrying a $10 price tag. The wine comes from the Riverina based Casella family wine company's hugely successful Yellow Tail label and it is cherry red in the glass. Scents of rose petals and jelly beans show on the nose and juicy strawberry flavour features on the front of the palate. Plum, spice mint characters chime in on the middle palate and the finish has soft dusty tannins. DRINK WITH: pepperoni and eggplant pizza, grilled chorizo sausages or linguine with tuna and tomato.

The fact that you can't put the cork back in a bottle of Champagne (or cava, or prosecco) was perhaps a key factor in it becoming the de facto drink for any celebration. You need enough people to finish the bottle, meaning everyone has a glass, or a few people have several. But Yellow Tail, the mass-market Aussie vintner, has altered that equation with a re-sealable lid on their Bubbles brand of sparkling wine.

Yellow Tail 2010 Shiraz - Here's one for all those who like their red wines to be chock-a-block with up-front fruit flavours. Yellow Tail sells around 12 million cases of wine a year - more than any other Australian label - and while this is not subtle, it does delivers plenty of bang for your buck with spice and sweet berry aromas, plenty of oomph, ripeness and appealing softness on the palate. Pull out a bottle for your next backyard barbecue. $10.

Yellow Tail Pinot Noir 2010, Merlot 2010, Shiraz 2010 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 - The winemaking aims at capturing flawless, ripe, friendly, fruity wines on a very large scale, and succeeds particularly with the full, soft shiraz and cabernet sauvignon. They're decent wines at a fair price.
