Australian's love [yellow tail]
Casella Family at home
Casella Wines has captured the palate of thousands of Australian's with its successful [yellow tail] brand, which boasted sales of 130,000+ cases within its first year of domestic distribution. In 2008, [yellow tail] produced 550,000 cases for domestic sale.
When Casella Wines celebrated [yellow tail]'s one-year anniversary, sales exceeded the Yenda-based winery's expectations. The results were a testament to the brand's powerful blend of quality, branding and pricing. The results occurred when the Australian wine market was extremely competitive and overcrowded, with many local wine companies struggling to register profits.
With so much excess wine, there was a surge of clean skins or unlabelled wines on bottle-shop shelves, all targeting the same wine consumer. Even under these circumstances [yellow tail] snapped up its sizeable portion of the market, with sales continuing to rise, validating the strength of strong branding when matched with quality.
John Casella had this to say: "The year has been incredible, with remarkable achievements for the [yellowtail] brand in the domestic and export front. We've received great reviews, plus won the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy and the Stodart Trophy. What makes me most proud are the latest figures showing that the home market is embracing the [yellowtail] range."
Within the [yellowtail] selection, the Chardonnay has been the most popular drop for Australians, followed closely by the Merlot and Shiraz - all of which retail for under AU$10.
The triumph of [yellowtail] is expected to continue, with Casella Wines remaining dedicated to excellent wine-making and marketing.
Established in 1969 by Italian migrants Filippo and Maria Casella, this family-owned winery has created one of the most successful wine brands in Australian history. Now run by three generations of the Casella family, the winery continues to rapidly expand after leaping forward with the success of the wine bearing the striking image of the Australian Yellow Tail Rock Wallaby.
